James Champion Gritty, catchy, honest, sentimental in the best way, and totally new—I mean I don’t know another songwriter writing songs with this specific charm. It’s like finding an apricot in the corner of a dusty pantry that is somehow still perfectly ripe

p.s. it warms my heart that someone is making music like this in lil ol Marquette Mi Favorite track: You Can Do Both.

augustuswithers Anything that is too honest to be spoken is sung, and Raymond Little, luckily for us, sings very well. Favorite track: Singing Gospel.

Sunday morning, singing gospel. Stay up all night at a brothel. My moms calling, I’m not answering. To busy watching dirty dancing. I’m in a closet with a stripper, she’s getting upset I won’t kiss her. “Are you gay man? Just be honest, what’s with the fingernail polish?” ‘’I gotta go, hey, here is my number. I guess blue is just my favorite color.’’ “Do you work Monday?” I said that “I do, I’ll take it off though so you don’t have to.’’ Sunday morning trying to sleep in, she’s in the bathroom dry heaving. I hear it echo across the tile like a fender amplifier. My dads yelling “Whats that racket?!” It brings me back like a starter jacket. Ibuprofen and a High Life, Dylan’s singing about his ex wife. Idiot wind blows out of a speaker. She skipped dinner because I didn’t feed her. Sometimes I feel like a dead letter. Sometimes I think we could do better. Sunday Morning, sun shining. Still gotta look for a silver lining. My heads beating like a bass drum. Early today, had a threesome. They called a taxi, what a wild ride. They said that I can’t walk (baby) it’s cold outside. After the storm calmed, before the sunrise, we walked for miles, because our phones died. She finally asked me “do you think she is pretty?” Well rehearsed I said “not really,” On a road that we’ve never been down, in the outskirts of her hometown.

Stay 03:41
There’s a ghost in the kitchen, I’ve still yet to see. Got these letters to write you, you’ve still gotta read. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. What about all those verses that still don’t have any words? What about that one love song that nobody has heard? You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. There are still cards on the table, there’s still fish in the lake. There’s still a promise to make me, that you can’t ever break. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. Be like that wine in the cellar. I’ve got more flowers to buy. I’ve got an age old answer, because I love you, that’s why. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You’ve been here before and you’ll go here again. I wrote the cinema score and it’s not close to the end. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay. You can’t leave, I want you to stay.

You can blame it on the sunshine, you can blame it on the rain. You can blame it on your boyfriend when you can’t pronounce his name. You can blame it on your mother, say your father was no good. You can blame it on old me for coming through when no one would. You can blame it on the seasons you can blame it on the month. You can blame it on miss bartender, you can blame it on spiked punch. It could be your exes fault or the soup you at for lunch. Or maybe you just drink too much. You can blame it on the country you can blame it on the blues. You can blame it on your boredom when you have a ton of shit to do. you can blame it on the holidays, vacations or occasions. You can blame it on old mother Earth for another full rotation. You can blame it on the outfit of some cartoon pinup girl. You can blame it on your hometown, you can blame the whole wide world. You can blame it on the cards you're dealt you can blame it on your luck. But maybe you just drank too much. It could be your exes fault or the soup you at for lunch. Or maybe you just drink too much. Maybe you just drink too much. Maybe I just drink too much. Maybe we just drink too much.

Philville 03:28
The morning light is hazy as I head into the city. Sneak out of the woods onto county road 550. In the thicket of my mind as I roll on down the road, past that made over ma and pop shop, I swear I watched explode, that winters day they said you past away. Well it’s lost its charm but it still has your name. Well I never felt like changing plus I didn’t have a shower, and even if i did that would shorten happy hour. I’d stop in after work to converse and have a beer. Head in for a six pack, head home with the cashier. I miss those days when I could hardly pay you rent. Everyday is a gift but I can’t seem to unwrap the present. After the train tracks and a long day of working, again and again I’d make that stop to see who’s working. To this day I hit my blinker when approaching your address. Ready to turn right till i remember that you left. That winters day they said you past away. Well it’s lost its charm but it still has your name. Idiosyncratic shoes no one can fill. Because without you it will never be Philville.

Maverick 03:07
Solo, I’m going out like Marco Polo On a new moon, fireworks going kaboom. Eloping, heard the relationship was open. In a full bar, these billies want to kick my ass far. Why you knocking if you don’t want in? Be a maverick you chameleon. Guitarist, the one who tells me I’m an artist. Well hot damn, these hippies love it when I space jam! FOMO, too bad i missed you at that shit show My one and only, she doesn’t want me cuz I’m lonely. Why you knocking if you don’t want in? Be a maverick you chameleon. Why you knocking if you don’t want in? Be a maverick you chameleon. Solo, I’m staying home like Henry Thoreau.

Happy Hour 02:01
It’s almost the weekend, my favorite bands in town. Too sad for happy hour, Friday evening coming down. I know it can’t be right but I know that it’s true. That all I want to do…………. is make love to you. Well the times they are a changing and loving you still scares me. These days go on forever, the nights just temporary. I know it can’t be right, swimming in the blue. But all I want to do ……………is make love to you.

Muddy's Song 01:51
I love these days with my dog. Wood stove talking in a monologue. Now we’re sitting around, a couple bumps on a log. I love these days with my dog. Well it’s cold and it’s dark out there. Reading Steinbeck in my underwear. He can follow his nose but not the dialog. I love these days with my dog. I love these nights with my friend and I hope that they never end. For if they do I’ll stay lost in the fog. Until I make it back home to my dog. These are the days with my dog.

Yoga in the morning fishing in the evening, write a little poem then go snowbeelin (it’s a word) Feeling like the fish on the line that you’re reeling, call your therapist, tell em' how you’re feeling. You can eat kale and a black bean lunch. Just cause you eat meat doesn't make you tough. Fight for something good without throwing a punch, you can be soft and still be rough. You can do both, you can do both. You can be loss, you can be growth. You can ride a bike or a big old truck, you can be a man and still give a fuck. Chug a couple monsters drink it like you’re sponsored. Be a good guest, you don’t have to conquer. Treat all women like I hope you treat your daughter. Defend your land, protect the water. You can grow a pair and shave your ankles. You can be straight and see the different angles. You can be soft and go hard-core, You can own a gun and not start a war, You can do both, you can do both. When you try to hide truth I can tell it like a joke. You can shoot the shit, a soccer ball and a puck, You can be a man and still give a fuck. You can do both, you can do both. You can be loss, you can be growth. You can ride a bike or a big old truck, you can be a man and still give a fuck.

We were drinking a lot. Then I got real mean. It’s been such a long haul in this quarantine. I said things that weren’t true. I hurt my best friend. I was acting like an asshole, it might happen again. It might happen again (It’ll happen again) It might happen again (It’ll happen again) We’re doing alright, if we pretend. It might happen again (It’ll happen again) It might happen again (It’ll happen again) Well it’s happened before, it might happen again. Well it happened again, and once again it was bad. A loaded tongue for a gun, I was as gone as your dad.

McGregor 02:53
Hey how bout this weather? Well I hope it lasts forever. You’ve got a hundred on McGregor, but he ain’t gonna make it rain. Rickety and ducking, virility is bluffing. The referee called nothing, he was saved by the bell. Well he knows just what to say to make you stay. He can duck, I do admit but he don’t know when to hit. He got on his knees and knelt so you gave him back his belt. Your heart’s like Roosevelt, carved out of stone. Well he takes more than he gives some broken ribs. Fills your head full of hope while he’s pinned against the rope. Hey how bout this weather? Well I hope it lasts forever. You’ve got a hundred on McGregor but he ain’t gonna make it rain.

Find someone who dives into loves glory. Not someone who only shares it in their story. Find someone who’s comfortable even when it’s scary. Find someone who dives into loves glory. Find someone who’s not jealous of your ex. Find someone who’s not thinking about your next. When the elevators down, you best take the steps. Find someone who’s not jealous of your ex. Well it’s take off time to learn to land. Get my feet on the ground, be a reckless man. Or better yet, not crash at all. Why’d you have to leave……..in the fall? Find someone who talks when they’re not drinking. Find someone who tells you what they’re thinking. Find someone to walk with who won’t trip you when you’re limping. Find someone who talks when they’re not drinking. Find someone who won’t change your memories. Find someone who loves without a fee. Find someone who loves themselves with such ease. Find someone who won’t change your memories. Well it’s take off time to learn to land. Get my feet on the ground, be a reckless man. Or better yet, not crash at all. Why’d you have to leave……..in the fall? Find someone who gives you time and space. When you say no they don’t show up at your place. Find someone who loves you who won’t hit you in the face. Find someone who gives you time and space. Well it’s take off time to learn to land. Get my feet on the ground, be a reckless man. Or better yet, not crash at all. Why’d you have to leave……..in the fall?
